In 1984, the Reds had 14 games where starters got three days of rest.  In 1985, they had 88 starts on three days rest.  I always thought of Pete as a manager who abused relievers (Frank Williams and Rob Murphy come to mind) but that pattern with starters was clearly &lt;br /&gt; different from what Vern Rapp was doing.  Soto had 19 starts on 3 days rest in 1985, which was 6 more than he had in the previous 4 seasons combined.
